Bass Guitar Lessons

  • Develop your groove, technique and musical foundation.

Western Sydney Music Academy offers bass guitar lessons in Parramatta for kids, teenagers and adults, from beginners through to experienced players.
Lessons focus on developing the technique, rhythmic accuracy and musical understanding needed to become a confident bass player. Students learn how the bass connects rhythm and harmony while developing the skills to play independently and as part of a band.
  • What you'll learn:
    • Technique and control: Fretting, fingerstyle and picking techniques, hand coordination and efficient playing habits.
    • Timing and groove: Develop rhythmic accuracy, pulse, subdivisions and consistent groove.
    • Scales and fretboard knowledge: Learn notes, scale patterns, positions and navigation across the fretboard.
    • Music theory and harmony: Understand keys, chords, chord progressions and how bass lines support harmony.
    • Bass lines and musical phrasing: Develop vocabulary, articulation, dynamics and the ability to create effective bass parts.
    • Styles and genres: Explore rock, pop, funk, blues, metal, jazz and other styles relevant to your interests.
    • Playing with a band knowledge: Develop listening skills, rhythmic communication and an understanding of how bass works with drums and other instruments.
  • Students apply these skills through repertoire, practical exercises and opportunities to play with other musicians. Eligible students can also explore WSMA band programs, jam nights and performance opportunities.

Our aim is to help students develop into well-rounded bassists with the technical ability and musical awareness to play confidently.

My daughter has been a student at the academy for many years. She is always challenged in a very supportive environment. There are opportunities to perform in the student showcases or play with like minded musicians in a band i.e band club. I would highly recommend this academy for your child’s (or your own) musical growth

I have recently begun guitar and music theory lessons at WSMA with Natalie Jankhum as my instructor. I have played guitar for some years, played in multiple bands, and enrolled to improve my ability in several genres, sight reading and music theory. I've improved faster in the last few weeks than at any other time. My exercises are expanding my ability and the lessons are well designed. Nat is an excellent teacher - explanations are clear, she is patient and provides great constructive feedback. WSMA caters for a range of abilities across several instruments. The facilities are good with everything supplied. Lessons are much better value for money than some other places. Unreservedly and totally recommended.

My son has been taking guitar lessons here for the past year and absolutely loves it. He’s also part of their house band, and they host regular jam nights that he really enjoys. Natalie is a fantastic teacher and has helped him grow so much in both music theory and technique. Highly recommended!

I've been attending drumming lessons weekly for the past year. Gareth is an amazing instructor and the rest of the staff are great as well. The studio offers showcases and gig nights as well as regular classes. On the regular plans you can also cancel your session (as long as its 24 hours before) and receive 2 make-up credits that can be used within 3 months, which has been super helpful when life gets in the way and I can't make my lesson. The studio also offers a holiday pause (again when you're on the plan) which is very helpful if you've got a vacation planned. I first tried their 30 min intro session which i think was $25 to get a feel for if I would like it or not and that helped! The studio does offer other musical classes, that I don't take, but I can highly recommend the drumming lessons that Gareth teaches! He's a super chill guy and really good at keeping the motivation up :) I truly didnt think I'd stick to this for so long but the classes and people make it really easy to keep coming back. Its also a 10 minute walk from Parra Station so pretty accessible if you take public transport.

Absolutely brilliant place for musical coaching. Natalie teaches beginner lessons and is kind, patient and it's clear she has a passion for both her art and teaching her students. 10,001 cats / 100

My elder one has been learning piano with Natalie Jankhum for almost a year now, and we absolutely love it! She’s an amazing teacher, very attentive to finger technique and always ensures it’s done correctly. She doesn’t just teach music, she teaches with perfection and passion. All the teachers at Western Sydney Music Academy are very friendly and supportive. My younger one recently started drums with Randell, and he’s already loving it! The academy also hosts Jam Nights where kids get the chance to perform on stage, and they can participate in student showcases, which is a great confidence booster. Highly recommend this academy for anyone looking for quality music lessons.
